Box Score ALLEN, TX-- The Dallas Christian College women's softball team defeated SAGU by a score of 9-8 in the first game of the season at the Southern Collegiate Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Lions scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Crusaders scored 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to regain control of the game.
Kaylee Castillo walked with the bases loaded and picked up in RBI with Kaycee Mcdowell scoring the first run of the season.
Summer Hasfurter grounded out to shortstop and picked up an RBI, driving in Averyy Tapia to knot the game up at 2.
Hanna Roye hit a 2 run single to left field driving in
Kaylee Castillo and
Rhionnon Weatherly to cap off an explosive four-run inning. DCC built more momentum with a clean sheet in the bottom of the second to maintain a 4-2 lead heading into the third inning.
Mattee Fry singled to right field to start the inning off.
Avery Tapia singled to second base, scoring
Mattee Fry and extending the DCC lead to 5-2.
SAGU scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to one run. After holding the Lady Crusaders scoreless in the top half of the fourth inning, the Lions re-gained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kaycee Mcdowell started off the top of the fifth inning with a lead-offsingle and stole second base.
Kaylee Castillo knocked a single up the middle to drive in Kaycee Mcdowell tying the game up at 6. The momentum swings continued to tilt back and forth in the bottom of the fifth inning with SAGU grasping a 8-6 lead.
DCC trailed by two runs heading into the final inning of play.
Avery Tapia started the inning off with a single.
Hanna Roye knocked in the tying run with an RBI single, followed by a base clearing triple by
Kaylee Brent to give the Lady Crusaders a 9-8 lead. This would be the game-winning hit to propel the Lady Crusaders to its first victory of the new season.
Hanna Roye went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and one walk,
Avery Tapia went 3 for 4 with 2 singles and 1 RBI.
Kaylee Castillo went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 1 walk.
Kaylee Brent had 2 hits in 5 at-bats, including a game-winning triple in the top of the 7th inning.
Summer Hasfurter got the nod on the mound for the first game of the season. She went four innings and gave up six earned runs.
Autumn Minyard came in relief, pitching 2 innings, giving up 3 hits, and two earned runs. Hannah Mattingly sealed the win in the last inning only giving up 1 hit. DCC will compete tomorrow at 2:50 p.m. in game 3 of the Southern Collegiate Invitational.
