Box Score 2 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College baseball team outscored Arlington Baptist University 37-3 on Friday, April 9 in a doubleheader game that is the first of four weekend games. Game one went to the Crusaders in 17-0 fashion, while the second contest was a 20-3 result.
In the series opener, DCC scored a run in all six innings it hit and totaled 11 hits and walks. Up 2-0 in the third inning, Adriel Davila broke the game open with a three-run homer over the high left field wall. The lead expanded in the fourth with Cooper Ness and Alex Westman also going yard. The big knocks in the fifth were Nate Vasquez doubling to left field for two runs scored, and then Davila singled home a run and a second run on the play came in because of an Arlington Baptist error.
Davila produced four runs batted in and was one-of-four Crusaders with multiple hits. Vasquez, Ness, and Garrett Moody also were part of that quartet.
Anthony Esposito tossed a complete game shutout over seven innings. He scattered two hits and walked one, while striking out a season-high eight batters. He faced three batters above the minimum (24).
In game two, the Crusaders got busy scoring early runs with four in the first, five in the second, and seven in the third. A four-run fourth wrapped up the onslaught, as the Crusaders were shutout the rest of the way. DCC matched a season-high 20 runs and tallied 22 hits.
Dallas Christian was led at the plate by Brandon Andrews with a perfect 4-for-4 and game-high four RBI. He was part of a trio of players to score three runs in the game. Reyes and Aidan Thomas, who ran for DCC catcher Josh Freeman, also made the mark in that category. Reyes and Travis Whitehurst followed in hits with three and each had a walk. Reyes scored three runs and plated a pair in this game. Vasquez produced four runs batted in to match Andrews for the highest total on the day. Davila and Vasquez added two-hit games as well. Another pair of hitters with at least two were Cruz Barrera and Andrew Torrez.
A quintet of doubles counted for the Crusaders with Whitehurst, Carlos Torres, Vasquez, Rodriguez, and Barrera. Reyes added a triple and Davila rocketed his second home run of the series in the last DCC frame.
Collin Patten earned the start and went four innings on three runs and seven hits. He walked one and fanned two. Casey Morrow, Aaron Trujillo, and Jayden Lasley each had a clean innings.
The Crusaders improved to 11-32-1 overall and have now won seven-of-eight games.
