BB Central Regional Tournament Preview: Crusaders kick off action at 1 p.m. on May 6th against Calvary University

SPRINGFIELD, MO-- Dallas Christian College enters the NCCAA Central Region Baseball Tournament looking to play its best baseball of the season and lean into a lineup that has quietly produced at a high level despite a challenging regular-season record.

Offensively, the Crusaders have been one of the more dangerous teams in the region on a per-at-bat basis. As a team, they are hitting an impressive .302 with a .414 on-base percentage, showing an ability to consistently generate traffic and extend innings. The middle of the order is anchored by Wyatt Smith, who has been one of the most productive hitters in the lineup all season, batting .436 with power and run production. He's joined by Andrew Hickey (.441) and Nathan Fuentes (.333, .500 OBP), giving Dallas Christian a trio capable of changing games quickly.

Kreed Jones adds another dimension with five home runs and 28 RBI, while Jonas Ledesma has been a steady contributor both offensively and behind the plate. The Crusaders' depth is evident, with multiple players hitting above .300 and several others contributing situationally, making this a lineup that can string together runs rather than relying solely on the long ball.

The challenge for Dallas Christian has come on the mound. The team enters the postseason with a 10.58 ERA, and limiting opposing offenses will be the key factor in determining how far they can advance. Jonas Ledesma and Bryce Garza have handled significant innings in starting roles, while Kreed Jones and Max Zierau provide additional options depending on matchups. Finding consistency early in games and avoiding big innings will be critical.

Defensively, the Crusaders have shown flashes of reliability with a .924 fielding percentage, though tightening up mistakes will be important in a tournament setting where every extra out matters.

Despite a 14-27 record, Dallas Christian is not a typical lower-seeded team. Their offensive production gives them the ability to compete with—and beat—any opponent in the field if their pitching staff can rise to the occasion. In a tournament format where momentum can shift quickly, the Crusaders have the tools to be a dangerous team capable of making a run. The Crusaders will play Mission University in round 1 at 1 p.m.
