Box Score 2 MOORE, Okla. – The Dallas Christian College baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep on the same day for the first time this spring, topping Randall University on Friday to start a four-game set. The Crusaders were able to score the go-ahead run in the seventh as Adriel Davila knocked in Stefon Reyes on a base hit. More importantly as has been a struggle this year, DCC's pitching and defense held the one-run lead in the bottom half to grab the victory. After a leadoff single to right, Ryan Bailey retired the next three Saints to end the game.
Reyes headlined the offense with a 3-for-3 and three runs scored. Nate Vasquez had a double and two RBI to match Davila in run production. Travis Whitehurst and Davila were the other multi-hit performers. Brandon Andrews had the other DCC extra-base hit with a double and scored a run. The top three hitters in the lineup represented all the runs for the Crusaders.
DCC got the lead in the first inning with a three-spot. After allowing Randall a run in the bottom half, the Crusaders went out to a 4-1 edge in the third. The home team knotted the score with one in the fourth and two in the fifth. DCC then had the amazing seventh and were able to win just its second one-run game of the campaign. The other was 10-9, also against Randall on February 27 at Randall.
Anthony Esposito got the start and threw four innings. He struck out four and worked around five hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks. Bailey finished the last three innings and was charged two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out two.
In Game two, DCC would be in control by outhitting the Saints by 10 with a 14-4 advantage. The game was highlighted by a four-run second inning. The Crusaders added a pair of runs in the fourth and seventh.
Collin Patten threw a complete game and nearly had the shutout, but a run would come across in the final frame. Patten was not charged the run, as he scattered four hits, walked one, and fanned three.
Andrew Torrez was the star of the game with a perfect game at the plate with four hits and three runs-batted-in. He also scored a run. Andrews, Davila, and Cooper Ness each had a pair of hits and the latter two scored twice. Reyes, Josh Freeman, Ness, and Cruz Barrera all were credited with an RBI.
This was the first time since the opening series on January 29-30 versus Central Christian that the Crusaders won two games in a row. They will go for a series win and possibly a sweep on Saturday against Randall. Start time of game one is at 12 p.m.
