DCC Baseball Sweeps Arlington Baptist in 4 Games; Set New Season-High in Runs Scored

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas Christian College baseball completed its first four-game sweep of 2021 and kept its dominating weekend on both sides of the ball up against Arlington Baptist University. The Crusaders scored 34 runs in Saturday's twinbill after piling on 37runs in Friday's doubleheader. DCC allowed just 10 runs combined.

The Crusaders are off to a great start in April, having won 7-of-8 games against Southwest Regional teams. They have a schedule change this weekend with a home doubleheader on Saturday versus Champion Christian College at 12 p.m.

In game one, DCC matched its runs output with total hits. Brandon Andrews led the way with a 3-for-4, 3 RBI, and 3 runs. Travis Whitehurst had two RBI and runs scored to go with a 2-for-4. Cade Croysdale also went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Adriel Davila notched the other multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Andrews smacked a home run and joined Davila with the other doubles. Whitehurst and Cooper Ness legged out triples.

Steven Schaffner earned the win with six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits. He did not allow a walk and struck out four. Casey Morrow worked around a hit in the seventh and added a punch out.

Game two for the Crusaders was another offensive explosion with a new season-high in runs scored. The offense put up six runs in the third, seven in the fourth, and five in the fifth. Andrews managed one hit, but logged a new high in ribbies with five. Ness and Morrow each had perfect 3-for-3 performances. Ness drove in four runs and scored four times himself. Alex Westman was another offensive standout with a 2-for-3 and two runs-batted-in. Whitehurst went 2-for-5 in the finale. DCC totaled six doubles that included a pair by Ness. Westman added one and smacked a home run along with Andrews to highlight the big base knocks. Whitehurst, Zeke Humek, and Morrow also collected two-baggers.

Ryan Bailey fanned seven batters after five innings of one-run and four-hit ball. Ian Nash struck out the side in his inning of work and Davila closed out the wonderful weekend at DCC with a scoreless seventh. His strikeout gave the pitching staff 11 for the day.

Dallas Christian announced a schedule change for the upcoming weekend. The Crusaders are hosting Champion Christian College instead of playing on the road in Arkansas. Due to weather, there will just be a doubleheader on Saturday staring at 1 p.m. Keep up with dccsports.com schedule/results page for any adjustments.
