Box Score 2 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College baseball team split a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday, March 23, versus Crowley's Ridge College. After dropping game one 10-4, the Crusaders put up 10 runs in the second game to win by five runs.
The victory was highlighted by a six-run second inning that helped propel the Crusaders to a 7-0 advantage. Travis Whitehurst and Nate Vasquez registered hits during the big inning. After Crowley's Ridge answered for two runs in the third, DCC put up three runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead. Brandon Andrews singled to left to score Whitehurst and Vasquez doubled to left for a two-RBI hit. Carlos Torres and Andrews scored on the play.
Andrews had already been part of the scoring, when he started things as the second batter for Dallas Christian with a home run in the first inning. The first four batters: Whitehurst, Andrews, Josh Freeman, and Vasquez were responsible for eight RBI. Andrews headlined the lineup with a 3-4, three runs, and two RBI. Vasquez drove in three and had the other multi-hit game.
The Crusaders held off Crowley Ridge's late inning runs, as six pitchers combined for three earned runs on three hits in seven innings. The sextet also combined for 10 strikeouts led by Stefon Reyes with four. Trever Smith started and fanned three in two innings. Reyes also went two and then Casey Morrow, Andrew Torrez, and Ian Nash finished the game with an inning apiece.
In the first game, CRC built an 8-1 lead thanks to a pair of four-run frames in the second and fourth. DCC scratched a run in the fourth but did not have much success on the scoreboard until its final at bat. Torrez singled a run in to score Vasquez in the second. Vasquez later got credited an RBI on a hit by pitch that forced a run home with the bases loaded. Reyes had the big knock with a double, which was the lone extra-base hit for the home team. Freeman and Justin Turner scored on the play.
Collin Patton started and allowed three earned runs in two innings. Payton Todd followed with an inning, and then Isaiah Gomez, Jayden Lasley, and Aaron Trujillo each made an appearance on the mount. Gomez worked two innings and pitched around three hits. The trio did not give up an earned run.
