Box Score 3 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College women's basketball team competed three more times since the previous write-up a week ago at Randall University. At that time DCC had rattled off five straight wins capped by a three-point come-from-behind effort on the road.
The Crusaders snapped that streak at Barclay College last Saturday, 92-70, but did bounce back with an 82-61 home win over Texas Christian College on Monday and followed that the next night at Southwestern Adventist University in a 64-48 final.
DCC is 9-7 overall and entered eighth in this week's power ratings released for the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA). Barclay College checked in at third overall. The following week, the Crusaders will host number 1 Arlington Baptist University and number 2 Champion Christian College. Their final regular season opponent Randall is fifth.
The Crusaders are 8-2 in their last 10 and have won four-of-five February games thus far.
Their most recent victory was over Southwestern Adventist to improve to 3-0 in head-to-head meetings, which included two at Keene, Texas. Unlike the previous two games, the Knights hung around down just six going into the last quarter. The Crusaders kept trying to push out to a bigger lead but it wasn't until the last surge starting with a trey by Micayla Havard in the last three in and a half minutes that sent the lead out of reach.
Havard buried another triple a little over 30 seconds later and then the third three-pointer in a row, this time by Crystal Eureste, opened a 60-44 advantage. Havard's 7-for-9 helped her match a team-high 16 points off the bench. Her seven rebounds matched Kiearra Rivers for second-most in the game.
Eureste tied a team-high 16 points and chipped in six rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Shabaria Walter added 13 points and Rivers rounded out the quartet of top scorers with 10. Courtnee Locke garnered a team-high eight boards.
The day prior, the Crusaders put away Texas Christian thanks to a 13-point second quarter advantage that opened a 15-point lead at the break. Walter had a personal-best 27 points to go with a team-leading five steals and also had six rebounds. Mckayla Washington scored 19 points to match a personal-high and Leia Twine put up a 12-point game from the bench.
DCC used a competitive first three quarters before Barclay used a 17-point difference in the last quarter to pull away. Rivers led the team with 23 points and 15 rebounds for another double-double. Washington eclipsed double figures with 11.
