Box Score 4 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College baseball team hosted a three-team tournament this past weekend. The Crusaders were 0-4 against a pair of difficult NAIA opponents, Central Baptist College and Mid-America University.
GAME 1 vs. Central Baptist (L, 8-0) (F/7)
The Crusaders were held to two hits by Cooper Ness and Andrew Torrez. Josh Freeman drew three of the team's six walks. Anthony Esposito and Trever Smith threw three innings apiece and each allowed two earned runs. Smith struck out three.
GAME 2 vs. Mid-America University (L, 9-3) (F/7)
The Crusaders played as the visiting team in this game and were quick to get on the board with three runs through the first two innings. Stefon Reyes doubled to left field and scored Brandon Andrews in the first frame. DCC manufactured two more runs in the top of the second before the Evangels answered with nine runs thanks to a trio of three-spots. They got the game knotted in the bottom of the second and claimed the lead in the third. After suspended action in the bottom of the sixth due to darkness, MACU started Saturday morning off with three runs to secure the six-run advantage.
Cade Croysdale was perfect at the plate with a 2-for-2 and walk. Zeke Humek also had a two-hit game. Humek, Reyes, and Anthony Marrufo struck for the extra base hits with doubles.
GAME 3 vs. Central Baptist (L, 11-8 (F/7)
The Crusaders answered a three-run second inning with one in the third and a pair in the fourth. Carlos Torres plated Andrew Torrez for the first run and Reyes struck for a two-RBI single to center that made it a new ballgame. The big damage for DCC was the sixth as Alex Wessman hammered a double for two runs. Ness singled in another run with an infield hit and then an error allowed the last two runs in to make it 8-3.
DCC was the road team again so the Mustangs got the final at bat. They got a three-run home run from Will Hodges to cut into the gap in the sixth. Casey Morrow worked out of trouble with a ground out to second to keep the Crusaders in front 8-7. The first two Mustangs were retired in the last inning, but a hit by pitch and walk put runners on for the heart of the order. Kelvin Volquez snuck a single through the left side to tie things and Griffith Olinde ended things with a walk-off shot.
The top four hitters collected all-but one DCC hit, which came from Wessman pinch hitting for the first batter in the lineup. The Crusaders combined for 10 walks. Adriel Davila threw four innings in the start. Travis Whitehurst had a scoreless inning of work.
GAME 4 vs. Mid-America University (19-2) (F/7)
Dallas Christian was back as the home team hitting, but would fall behind four runs early. A couple of defensive miscues helped get a run back in the home half of the inning. MACU poured on the offense and put the game out of reach early.
