DCC Men's Basketball Recaps Busy Stretch Leading Into Thanksgiving Break

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team returns to action for the first time after the Thanksgiving Break and will start the month of December with its first official game at Manhattan Christian College. DCC has played 10 times this winter and has gone 1-9 based on the final score. Each have been non-countable as exhibition games and have provided the Crusaders with experience of playing against higher level opponents. All games have been either NCAA Division II or NAIA opposition.

The Crusaders did squeak out an overtime win over York College on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University on November 13. Since then it has been five consecutive setbacks, with a tough stretch of four games in five days that went on during the holiday break. A trio of games were versus NCAA DII members of the Lone Star Conference in consecutive dates. A tournament hosted by Texas A&M University-Kingsville had DCC play them and Angelo State University the next day. Then on a back-to-back-to-back day swing, it was onto Tyler, Texas, to play University of Texas at Tyler. After a day to regroup, the road warriors ended at Texas A&M-Texarkana. Days before the long road trip started, the team played an evening game with a DFW NAIA foe, UNT-Dallas.

Below are box scores and notables on DCC's performance against these teams:
UNT-Dallas (Final, 63-43)
Box Score

Dallas Christian could not overcome a 40-16 first half deficit and slumped shooting 31.6 percent from the floor overall and 1-for-22 from three. The team also did not help its case at the free throw line shooting 6-for-19 and that included 4-for-11 in the opening stanza. Tilyr Hobson led the Crusaders with 11 points and had five rebounds. He was one of the few DCC players that shot well with a 5-for-6 result in field goals. Jarius Allen and Jason Makayabo each contributed nine points, while Allen grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Texas A&M-Kingsville (Final, 89-53)
Box Score

Dallas Christian only trailed by 11 at halftime, but the defense could not slow a tough Javelina offense in the last 20 minutes as the home team used a 56-point frame to pull away and take the win. 11 players scored for the Crusaders, but only Nick Erves and Versache Buchanan neared double-digits in points with eight apiece. Buchanan had six rebounds to lead all DCC players. Joseph Allen added seven points and five boards.

Angelo State (Final, 110-55)
Box Score

This was another game that DCC was outdone on both sides of the ball, but 11 players etched their names in the box score with points. Jordan Harris played a team-high 26 minutes and the point guard was also the lone Crusader to record at least 20 minutes of action. Hobson was the leading scorer with 10 points. Buchanan had eight points, while Caleb Brooks contributed seven points and five rebounds. The team swiped nine steals led by Hobson's three.

Texas-Tyler (Final, 100-47)
Box Score

Dallas Christian had Joseph Allen lead in two categories for points (11) and rebounds (6). Hobson chipped in nine points off the bench. The team continued to struggle with three-point shooting, going just 3-for-14. The team improved at the line with 10-for-15 shooting, which was headlined by Allen's 7-for-8 effort.

Texas A&M-Texarkana (Final, 105-82)
Box Score

Dallas Christian produced its second highest scoring output in regulation this season, which was helped by matching the Eagles for 47 points in the second half. Of course, TAMUT would shoot north of 50 percent overall and were a blistering 66.67 percent (20-30) from the floor in the opening stanza. Being limited to just 10 players, the Crusaders asked for high minutes out of the group including 37 by Joseph Allen and 30 by Chambers. Nine players logged double figures in terms of minutes. Harris paced DCC with 17 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown. Erves followed with 14, while J. Allen had 13. His brother Jairus Allen tossed in 12, while Micah Tucker rounded out the quintet of double-digit scorers with 12, too. The Crusaders shot 53.2 percent for the game and were at or above the 50 percent mark in each frame. DCC made eight three-pointers, including a 5-for-7 showing in the last half. The free throw line was the most impressive, with a 24-for-26 performance.
