Box Score 2 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team had a pair of conference games this past weekend at home. The Crusaders had a 20-point second half advantage in Saturday's win over No. 3 Kansas Christian College, which came on a the heals of a 19-point setback less than 24 hours before. In that game, the Baptist Bible College Patriots were able to secure the season sweep with a double-digit victory on its home court in December.
The Crusaders now sit at 5-4 overall and went 2-1 on the week at home.
In the victory over the Falcons (11-4), the Crusaders played even at 36 through 20 minutes of action. Trailing 24-12 just past the midway point, Versache Buchanan brought the margin to single-digits with a three-pointer. The final 5:44 minutes saw DCC go on a 15-3 run to knot the scoreboard at intermission.
Micah Tucker hit a three-pointer to put DCC on top in the second half after the team allowed the first basket. A triple by Jalen Perez extended the lead to four, and then after a dry spell from both teams Javonte Valdez joined the three-point party with one of his own to make it 45-41. Tyjuan Battles had a two and Moses Compton got a three to make the score a nine-point DCC advantage. Kansas Christian came within five, but then another newcomer going the squad was Jason Makayabo drained a trey. His three made it a 53-45 game.
The Crusaders went up by double-digits in the last 10 minutes with Tilyr Hobson gathering three points the old fashioned way with a free throw following a made basket. The margin stayed in double-digits the rest of the way. A three by Royce Mendez with 5:43 left opened a 20-point game, which was the final difference on the scoreboard.
The Crusaders bench was definitely where the notable players were as the team combined for 56 points. Part of that was the bench's five reserves all starting to shake things up a little bit.
Leading the scoring group was Reggie Daniels with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hobson followed with 13 points for the other double-digit scoring game. Valdez and Perez had eight and seven points, respectively, to lead the starting unit for the game.
DCC sizzled at 47.8 percent from the field. Both sides made eight three-pointers. The Crusaders held a 49-35 edge on defense and I will try to help work together to figure things out. Even with both teams identical with 21 turnovers, the Crusades have a 24-14 advantage on points off turnovers. They also got good looks in the paint, as DCC totaled a 24-14 edge in points off turnovers and 38-26 edge on what the stats are saying about post players. Finally, the Crusaders had a 16-2 edge on second chance points.
Jalen Lee led the Falcons with 21 points to go with seven rebounds. Vince Smith added 13 rebounds.
Baptist Bible (14-3) built a 10-point lead at halftime and at the end it was just too much for DCC to handle on coming back from. Tre Flowers posted 28 points to lead all players, with a 17-for-19 effort at the free throw line. D'Shawn Coleman went 7-for-11 at the charity stripe to help with his 18 points, and Ryker Strong also had 18 to lead the bench players. Hunter Baker added 12 points.
Hobson was DCC's top scorer with 13 points. Tucker tossed in 11 points with a 6-for-9 shooting display at the line. Elijah Barth and Valdez had 10 points.
Dallas Christian wraps up its home stand on Monday against Southwestern Adventist University in a makeup game for last Tuesday's game. Tip-off is around 7:30 p.m. after the women's game.
