DALLAS, Texas — Dallas Christian College volleyball battled through five competitive sets Thursday night, coming away with an exciting 3-2 victory over Cedar Valley College on its home court.
The Crusaders opened the match with a strong offensive performance, but Cedar Valley answered back to keep the match tight throughout the night. After splitting the first four sets, Dallas Christian came through in the deciding fifth set to secure the home victory.
Dallas Christian dropped the opening set 27-25, before responding with a 25-16 win in the second. Cedar Valley regained momentum in the third set with a narrow 27-25 victory, but the Crusaders refused to let the match slip away. Dallas Christian took the fourth set 25-23, setting up a winner-take-all fifth set.
With the match on the line, Dallas Christian delivered when it mattered most, winning the fifth set 15-13 to complete the comeback and claim the 3-2 match victory.
Offensively, Jamie Maddy led the Crusaders with 16 kills, while Zoelley Herrera added 11 kills and contributed a team-high 29 assists. Rosalind Spikes recorded eight kills while hitting .333, and Kinsley Jackson finished with seven kills.
Defensively, Dallas Christian was led by Alyssa Carreras, who recorded 27 digs, while Herrera and Goff each added 12 digs. The Crusaders finished the match with 97 total digs and 49 assists.
The victory showcased Dallas Christian's resilience, as the Crusaders fought through momentum swings and pressure in the final set to close out the five-set battle in front of the home crowd.
Dallas Christian improves to 1-3 on the season and will look to carry the momentum from Thursday night's victory into its next match on Friday, Sep. 4 at 1 p.m. against Jarvis Christian University.
