NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX-- The Dallas Christian College Softball team earned its way to the NCCAA NDAG Regional Tournament Championship with a 13-5 win against Kansas Christian College and a 7-5 win against Arlington Baptist. DCC hit 8 home-runs on the day (3 by
Kaylee Brent, 3 by
Kyleigh Lewis, 1 by
Erin Thibault, and 1 by Georgina Carillo) en route to its second straight NDAG Regional Championship appearance.
Game 1- Kansas Christian scored 2 runs in the top of the first. DCC answered with a thunderous response on a lead-off home-run by
Kyleigh Lewis, a
Lia Rojas single, a two run home-run by
Kaylee Brent, followed by a Georgina Carillo double, an
Erin Thibault double, and a sacrifice fly by
Toni Meyer. In the inning DCC scored 6 runs on 5 hits.
DCC extended its lead with
Kyleigh Lewis and
Kaylee Brent hitting their second home-runs of the day. DCC held on with a strong performance on the mound by
Toni Meyer. Meyer pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, and 2 strikeouts in 25 batters faced. DCC won 13-5 in 5 innings.
Game 2- The Lady Crusaders went down early 3-0, but that did not stop them from completing the comeback.
Perla Herrera scored in the second inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Kyleigh Lewis cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home-run. DCC tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Kaylee Brent stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning in a tie ball game and launched a rocket into orbit clearing the light pole and trees with a two-run moonshot to give the Lady Crusaders an emphatic 7-5 lead with just 3 outs to go.
DCC closed out the top of the 7th inning to complete the stunning 7-5 comeback victory.
Kelsey Cauthron dominated the final 4 innings of the game with 4 scoreless innings of work. Cauthron allowed 5 runs, 12 hits, and had 6 strikeouts in 31 batters faced.Â
The Lady Crusaders will look to win its second straight NDAG Regional Tournament tomorrow against familiar opponent Arlington Baptist University.Â
