DALLAS, TX-- The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team pushed #6 Champion Christian College to its limit on Saturday afternoon at home after jumping out to a 16 point lead in the first half and having a chance to win in the final seconds. The Tigers defeated the Crusaders in a closely, contested matchup by a score of 97-93.
DCC jumped out to a 16 point lead early in the first half, and controlled the pace of play throughout the first 20 minutes of play. Champion was able to cut the deficit to 10 points at half-time. In the second half the Tigers grasped control with a quick run and never looked back. They were able to hold off a valiant comeback effort by the Crusaders in the final minutes and secure the road victory.
DCC shot 33-65 (50.8%) from the field, 8-16 (50%) from the three-point line, and 19-21 (90%) from the free-throw line. DCC totaled 10 second chance points, 27 points off the bench, and 25 points off turnovers.
There were 5 Crusaders in double-digits on the day.
Jairus Allen led with a team-high 22 points, on 7-11 shooting from the field.
Taro Ford had 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field and 3-5 from the three-point line.
Tyjuan Battles had 14 points on 4-8 shooting from the field and 5 of 5 from the three-point line.
Joseph Allen had 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Nico Matheus was a huge lift off the bencch with 12 points and 4 rebounds. The Crusaders will be back at hme on Thursday, Feb. 2 against Randall University at 7 p.m.
