Box Score KEENE, TX-- The Dallas Christian College women's basketball team captured its first victory of the season after trailing by 12 points in the first half. The Lady Crusaders pulled out a close, hard-fought 60-55 victory over the Knights of Southwestern Adventist on Wednesday evening.
The first quarter was tightly contested as the Knights only led 20-15 after 1 quarter of play. SWAU used the second quarter to build a 7 point lead after one half of play. DCC came out of the locker-room locked in as the Lady Crusaders outscored the Knights 15-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to three points heading into the final quarter of play.
The Lady Crusaders were down to four players at one point after
Hope Thomas fouled out, and
Amber Covington sat for a couple minutes with a cramp before re-entering the game. DCC was relentless with outstanding effort and hustle which resulted in an impressive and gutsy performance on the road. A huge part of the Lady Crusaders win was the grit of the defense forcing 44 turnovers.
The Lady Crusaders shot 26-70 (37%) from the field, 2-14 (14%) from the three-point line, and 6-12 (50%) from the free-throw line. DCC tallied 20 total rebounds, 8 assists, 25 steals, and 3 blocks.
Rakia Lee led the charge with 29 points, 2 blocks, 9 steals, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds on 13-25 shooting from the field.
Mckayla Washington gave great energy off the bemch with 10 points, 6 steals, 3 assists, and one rebound on 5-10 shooting from the field. The Lady Crusaders will look to build momentum continuing on the road at Randall University at 2 p.m.
