DCC Baseball vs. Park University 3-Game Recap

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Christian College baseball team dropped the final three games as part of a three-day doubleheader weekend that had Central Christian and Park University visit. After playing the first three games versus Central Christian, the Crusaders had to battle a high-offense Park squad that won all four games over the weekend. The Pirates notched double-digit run totals in all three games.
Game 1 vs. Park University (19-8, L)
Park got on the board with two runs to start the game. The Crusaders answered back with a run in the home half of the inning, as a balk helped score Carlos Torres. However, the Pirates erupted for six runs in the second and three more in the third to open a double-digit lead. They collected 19 hits and runs in the route. DCC had five runs in the last three innings to be outscored 7-5 in that span.

Brandon Andrews was the lone DCC player to have multiple hits with a 2-for-3 showing. The top five spots in the lineup had a player score a run. Torres, Andrews, and Stefon Reyes each had one, while Curtis Morgan III crossed home twice. Marcos Franjul knocked in two runs with his one hit being a double and also was on base via a walk. Andrews clobbered the other two-bagger. Morgan III legged out a triple.

Game 2 vs. Park University (15-7, L)
The Pirates scored early and often with 13 runs over the first three frames. Park jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first inning and added another six runs in the second to put the score out of reach.

DCC had all its runs scored in the final three innings. Torres tripled to left-center in the fifth. Chris Bilbo, Cooper Ness, and Torres each had a ribbie in the sixth. Manny Valenzuela blasted a solo home run in the seventh. Ness smacked a double as part of a 2-for-4 game and had an RBI and two runs scored.

Hernandez added a 2-for-3 and two runs scored. He pitched 2.1 shutout innings with a team-high three strikeouts.

Game 3 vs. Park University (16-9, L) (F/6)
It seemed like another repeat of the whole head-to-head series was happening a third time with seven runs in Park's first time to bat. DCC was able get six runs back in the second inning. Caleb Mcqueen, who went 2-for-2 overall doubled in a pair of runs to get DCC on the board. Brandon Andrews and Stefon Reyes each had an RBI in the second. Joel Stone, who tallied four RBI, rounded out the scoring to make a 7-6 deficit. Andrews, Reyes, and Stone all had multi-hit games.

Park posted 9 runs over the next four innings. A three-run fourth would cut the score to 12-9, but added four more to polish out the sweep. Stone ripped his second double in the fourth that plated a pair of runs, while Cooper Ness pinch hit and smacked a double to bring in Stone.

Teams combined for 25 hits and both teams reached double-digits in the hits column. Gavin Chamerlain and James Holiday combined to relief the last five innings. Chamberlain fanned three, while Holiday went the longest length and allowed two earned runs, which was the fewest among a trio of arms.
