Crusaders fall in Three-Game Set to Schreiner

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Christian College baseball team went 0-3 in a non-conference series versus NCAA Division III Schreiner University. The series was adjusted for weather, as the team's played nine innings on Saturday and a pair of seven-inning games on Sunday. This was the second Division III school and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) team to play at DCC this season. DCC went 2-0 versus Austin College to start the campaign.
Game 1 vs. Schreiner University (14-5, L) (F/9)
The Crusaders answered a 2-run deficit with some offense of their own and gained a 3-2 lead. It was their first lead in three games since leading late versus Central Christian College. The bottom of the first featured a Carlos Torres single to center field, Brandon Andrews homer over left field, Stefon Reyes single to right, and Marcos Franjul double to right.

Schreiner pitching settled down and would level the score in the top of the second. The Mountaineers scored runs in the fifth through eighth innings, with six runs in the seventh putting the game away.

Torres was the only two-hit Crusader, as the team finished with seven. Manny Valenzuela and Jaylen Camarillo also had a hit.

Collin Patten suffered his first loss of the season with five innings thrown. He was charged four earned runs on 11 hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Game 2 vs. Schreiner University (12-2, L)
DCC kept things scoreless through the first two innings, but seven runs over the third and fourth innings put the game out of reach to start the twinbill. DCC totaled four hits, with the middle of the lineup: Reyes, Franjul, and Camarillo had singles. Camarillo and Joel Stone each scored a run.

Trevor Smith logged four innings in the start and was fine until ran out of steam after two scoreless. Ethan Connell added two scoreless innings.

Game 3 vs. Schreiner University (14-8, L)
For the second straight week, the Crusaders played their closest game in the series finale. After trading runs in the second, DCC was up a run through three frames. The Mountaineers retook the advantage with five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to get the sweep.

Josh Freeman singled home a run to give DCC a 3-2 lead on a ball through the right side on the ground. The catcher scored the tying run on a wild pitch, as this was not the most effectively pitched game on either side. Mcqueen bunted to the pitcher and everyone advanced 90 feet to give the Crusaders a 4-2 lead.

Freeman totaled a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI and run scored. Franjul and Ness each had a hit and run scored. Travis Whitehurst had the other multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 outing.
