Box Score DALLAS, TX-- The Dallas Christian College women's basketball team (0-1) played its first regular season game of the year against Texas College (1-0). The Lady Steers defeated the Lady Crusaders in a competitive matchup.
In the first quarter, DCC jumped out to a 7-0 lead early behind a hot start from Amber Covington who was responsible for all 7 points to fuel the early run. Texas College answered back with three straight three-pointers.
Keiarra Rivers knocked down a mid-range shot to give DCC a 13-12 lead after one quarter of play.
TC went on a 5-0 run to start the second quarter and jumped out to an 18-13 lead. DCC scored four straight points to cut the deficit to one point. The Lady Steers mounted a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 25-17. Mariah Lewis ended the run by knocking down a free-throw. Texas College went on to end the half scoring four more points to carry a 28-18 lead heading into halftime.Â
The Lady Crusaders did not back down and outscored TC 25-19 in the third quarter to cut the Lady Steers lead to 47-43 heading into the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter went back and forth as both teams continued to trade baskets. TC finally pulled away with two late free-throws to secure a 65-58 victory over the Lady Crusaders.Â
DCC shot 23-56 (41.1 %) from the field, 4-12 (33.3%) from the three-point line, and 8-16 from the FT line. Amber Covington led DCC with 22 points on 9-17 shooting from the field.
Keiarra Rivers had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Rakia Lee had 11 points and 4 assists on 4-11 shooting from the field. DCC will hit the road to take on USAO tomorrow at 5 p.m.
