Box Score 2 FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College women's basketball team wrapped up its regular season with a huge victory at home over Southwestern Adventist University, 77-43, on Friday. After a historic winter storm froze most of the Crusaders games on the final week before the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) Southwest Regional, they were able to take play a pair of home games which were their fourth matchups with SW' Adventist and Texas Christian College. The Crusaders would edge the Wolfpack in the nightcap, 82-61.
DCC grabbed the sweep over the Regional Opponent Knights including a third time this past month. The Crusaders defense suffocated the opposition with 21 steals helping lead to 40 turnovers. They scored 37 points off turnovers and held a 36-10 edge on points in the paint. The home team raced down the court a lot too with a 21-4 advantage on fastbreak points.
Mckayla Washington set the tone early with 14 of her game-high 18 points coming in the opening half. The freshman had three steals that helped her score six of the team's 10 points. Shabaria Walter chipped in 15 points and Crystal Eureste added 11. Courtnee Locke anchored the defense with career-highs in steals (8) and distributed 21 assists to help an offense that scored at least 70 points for the fifth time in the month of February.
DCC won its fifth straight and has now won 11 of the last 14 games. The team is now 9-1 at home and holds a 12-7 overall record. This includes 8-7 against NCCAA foes.
Prior to opening tip, a trio of seniors were honored for their contribution to the DCC program. With head coach Larry Tidwell sharing inspiring words about Daizja Jolly, Avery Roberts, and Shabaria Walter, it was a chance for these Crusaders to be celebrated and the energy from the bench throughout the day represented a team anxious to get going in the postseason.
Dallas Christian is the host the NCCAA Southwest Regional. The women's basketball quarterfinals that involves eight teams will begin on Wednesday, February 24. The official bracket will be released either on Sunday or Monday. The Crusaders await to learn its seed and matchup that day.
