Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Crusaders Split Remaining Part of Road Trip; Cruise by Calvary and Fall to No. 1 Champion Christian

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Dallas Christian College women's basketball team split the remainder of its three-game, three-day road trip by defeating Calvary University, 77-38, on Thursday evening and falling to No. 1 Champion Christian College, 72-57, on Friday.

Remaining fifth in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association Top 10 Poll from a week ago, DCC continued its good run of fortune with the third victory in a row on the road stretch. A pair of 24-point quarters took the Crusaders to a 48-12 halftime lead and they were in control from the get-go.

Keiarra Rivers and River Romine were the leading scorers with 15 points apiece. Journie Hilliard led the team on rebounds with seven and chipped in eight points for the third highest on the team that saw 14 players get time on the court. 13 would find the bottom of the bucket.

The Crusaders shot 40 percent from the floor and were 8-for-25 from three-point range.

Calvary struggled shooting 26.7 percent and were 3-for-22 from long range. Katie McGee was the top scorer for the Warriors with 16 points and added eight boards to match a game-high.

In an early anticipated matchup against a pair of top-five ranked teams, Champion Christian used a huge 25-9 advantage after one quarter to make this intriguing game lose its luster quickly. DCC outscored the Tigers by one over the next three quarters, but the damage had been done.

This was the first game this season that DCC has not tallied 20 or more points in a single quarter.

Covington was the leader in points and rebounds with 12 and seven, respectively. Mckayla Washington chimed in with 11 and Keiarra Rivers had nine points. Rivers scored 5-of-8 at the free throw line.

Elisa Gonzalez led the Tigers with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting. She tied Destiny Gonzalez for the team-high on the glass was seven rebounds and was second in scoring with 15 points.

Dallas Christian will host Calvary University on Monday at 2 p.m. The Crusaders also have Hoops Hysteria on December 10, when the team hosts Ozark Christian College.
