KEENE, Texas – The Dallas Christian College women's soccer team will be competing at the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) Southwest Regional Division II on Monday at 5:30 p.m., which will be hosted at Southwestern Adventist University.
The Crusaders will be taking on Arlington Baptist University. Four teams are competing, as Randall University and Southwestern Adventist are on the other side of the bracket. The winners will play Wednesday in the Championship.
DCC sits at 0-7-2 on the season, having lost four straight. Head Coach
Eric Smith is working hard in his first season to rebuild a program that was not sponsored at DCC in recent years and first came back this fall. The team does own one Regional Championship, which was in 2015.
On a team consisting of mostly freshmen, the Crusaders have battled to learn how to play together this fall and have done so against tough competition. Of the nine contests, three were NAIA opponents and one against an NCAA Division III foe. The Crusaders went 0-2-1 against the region, picking up a tie against defending Regional Champion Randall University.
Rachelle Chaves and
Liberty Holmes have each registered a goal for the Crusaders, while
Andrea Hernandez has an assist.
Elisabeth Rios is another option for the offense that has attempted team-highs in shots (18) and shots on goal (10).
Arabella Williams has played 810 minutes in goal and grabbed 60 saves in eight games. She has faced 147 shots between the sticks.
In the team's lone meeting this year, DCC fell 2-1 against Arlington Baptist in Dallas. All three goals of the match were tallied in the first half, with Holmes scoring late to cut the deficit in half. Micaela Faber netted the two goals for the Patriots and was the difference. Williams made 13 saves to keep the Crusaders close.
