WAXAHACHIE, TX-- The Dallas Christian College women's softball team split 2 games on Tuesday afternoon against Nelson University. The Crusaders won game 1 4-3, and lost game 2 2-0.
Game 1: In a low-scoring defensive affair the Crusaders were able to use a 3 run 6th inning as a spark leading to 4-3 victory.
The Crusaders scored wasted no time, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after an RBI Fielder's choice by
Kaylee Brent that scored
Erin Thibault. Nelson answered with 2 runs in the next 4 innings taking a 2-1 lead into the top of the 6th inning.
The Crusaders took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th inning after an 2 RBI triple by
Kayla Looper.
Kyleigh Lewis extend the lead to 4-2 with an RBI single.
Nizhoni Yellow closed the game out in the circle picking up her first save of the season, as DCC held on to win 4-3.
Kayla Looper went 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI's.
Erin Thibault went 2-4 at the plate.
Jasmine Hernandez picked up her first win of the season pitching 3.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 strikeout.
Nizhoni Yellow picked up the save pitching 3 innings allowing 1 run and 2 strikeouts.
Game 2: The Crusaders lost the second of the game in a low-scoring pitcher's duel. Nelson scored 2 runs in the third inning, which was the difference in the game.
Julia Saucedo went 1 for 2 at the plate and
Georgina Carrillo went 1 for 3 at the plate.
Kaylee Brent pitched 4.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.
Toni Meyer pitched 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit and no runs. The Crusaders will be back in action on Saturday against Howard Payne University.
