The Dallas Christian College Sofball team (9-16) ended the Space Coast Spring Games with 2 victories against SUNY Cobleskill. The Lady Crusaders were victorious in the first game with an 8-6 victory and a 2-1 victory in the second game.
Game 1: DCC charged out of the gates early in the top of the first inning with a 2 RBI double by
Rhionnon Weatherly to put the Lady Crusaders up 2-0. The Fighting The Fighting Tigers answered back in the bottom of the first inning with 2 runs of its own to notch the game up at 2. The Lady Crusaders exploded in the top of the third inning for 6 runs.
Hanna Roye hit an RBI single, Georgina Carillo hit an RBI single,
Emma Leraas singled to left, and
Perla Herrera singled to left scoring the 6th run of the inning to give DCC a commanding 8-1 lead.
DCC continued its solid pitching carrying an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Fighting Tigers crawled back into the game with a four run inning. DCC was able to hold off the late charge by SUNY in the bottom of the 7th inning with
Hannah Mattingley stepping on the bump to record the final out with 2 runners on base.Â
Rhionnon Weatherly went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's.
Allyse Leija went 1 for 4 at the plate with an RBI triple.
Aubrey Graham snatched the win going 5 innings allowing 1 earned run and 4 hits. She also recorded 4 strikeouts.
Hannah Mattingley picked up her first save of the season.
Game 2: The Lady Crusaders finished up its last game of the day with a hard fought 2-1 victory over SUNY Cobleskill to complete the sweep. The first five innings started as a pitching duel. Both teams were scoreless heading into the top of the 6th inning. SUNY tallied a run in the top of the 6th inning.Â
Perla Herrera notched the game at 1 with an RBI triple that scored
Kaylee Castillo.
Allyse Leija stepped up to the plate and continued her stellar week with a walk-off single.
Hannah Mattingley pitched 7 innings and only allowed 1 run in 27 batters faced. The lady Crusaders will be back at home on March 29 against Xavier University.
