Crusaders open up season at home against the Eagles

Dallas, Texas– The Dallas Christian College Baseball team opened up the season with a doubleheader on Thursday, February 1 against the Southwestern Christian University Eagles at Glenda and Denny Dixon Field.

DCC came up just short of the win in the opener losing by a score of 6-4 to the Eagles.

The Crusaders and the Eagles played scoreless baseball through the first 2 innings before SWCU plated 2 runs in the top of the third inning.

The Crusaders responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Cruz Soto got on base with an infield single to the shortstop and moved to third on a Jaidon Erivez bunt after a throwing error which also allowed Erivez to move to second base. Stefon Reyes followed with a 3 run HR to right on a 1-1 pitch for a 3-2 lead for DCC.

The Eagles were held scoreless in the fourth inning by SP Derek Lewis who threw 98 pitches over 5 innings. Lively gave up the third run of the game in the top of the fifth before retiring the side.

SWCU (1-0) followed with 3 runs over the final 2 innings, and the Crusaders (0-1) fell just short of a rally in the bottom of the seventh as they plated 1 run but could not close the gap further losing 6-4.

Game 2 of the doubleheader saw the Crusaders (0-2) lose 19-1 to the Eagles (2-0).
