FARMER'S BRANCH, TX-- The Dallas Christian College Women's Basketball team (4-7, 1-0) used its dominant defense to propel it to a 72-41 victory to open up conference play against Southwestern Adventist University (1-7, 0-1) on Friday morning.
Both teams' defenses dominated the first quarter with SWAU only scoring 12 points and the Lady Crusaders scoring 12. The Lady Crusaders created some separation in the second quarter taking a 27-18 lead at halftime. In the second half, DCC outscored SWAU 45-23 in the second half en route to a dominant win.
The Lady Crusaders stifling defense forced SWAU to turn the ball over 38 times. The Lady Crusaders turned good defense into points, scoring 38 points off turnovers. DCC scored 21 second chance points, 42 points in the paint, 29 bench points, and 21 second-chance points. As a team DCC had 34 offensive rebounds and crashed the glass hard all game.
As a team DCC shot 27-84 (32%) from the field, 5-27 (18%) from the three-point line, and 13-23 (56%) from the free-throw line.
Myah Coleman notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds,
Kera Martinez scored 14 points, 6 rebounds, and also had 2 steals.
Jaden Mitchell had a near double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds.
Alysha Garcia had 11 points on 4-11 shooting from the field. The Lady Crusaders move to 1-0 in conference play and will look to continue its winning ways against Champion Christian College on January 7.
