DALLAS, TX-- The Dallas Christian College men's soccer team (2-1) defeated NCAA Division III Howard Payne University (0-1) 2-1 with goals by
Angel Medel and
Francisco Govea. The Crusaders are now on a two game winning streak and have won both games this season with late goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Against Paul Quinn it was
Andrew De Leon and tonight against the Yellow Jackets it was Freshman
Francisco Govea who scored the game-deciding goal.
Angel Medel scored his third goal of the season in the 31st minute of the game on an assist by
Francisco Govea. DCC played tremendous defense in the first half and held the YellowJackets scoreless in the first half.
Emmanuel Nshimiyimana scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute of the game to deadlock the score at 1. Both teams battled tough in the second half and neither team had much luck finding the back of the net until the 84th minute when
Francisco Govea intercepted a pass and capitalized by putting the ball in the back of the net for his first career goal as a Crusader to give DCC a 2-1 lead with only 5 minutes remaining. The Crusaders back line held strong in the last 5 minutes to secure the 2-1 victory. Goal-Keeper
Alexis Hernandez recorded 2 saves. The Crusaders will be home on Tuesday, Sep. 5 at 4 PM against Hill College.
