DALLAS, TX-- The Dallas Christian College Baseball team finished up its 4 game series against Dakota State on Saturday afternoon. DCC lost the first game 7-3 and won the second game by a score of 4-3 on a walk-off double by
Brandon Andrews.
Game 1: DSU started the game off with 3 runs in the first inning to take command right off the bat. DCC scored 2 runs in the next three innings to cut the deficit to 1 run. The Trojans scored 2 runs in the next three innings to secure a 7-3 victory in the first game.
Derek Lewis pitched 7 innings, allowing 11 hits, 7 earned runs, and recorded 2 strikeouts. Manny Valenzuela and
Andrew Hickey both hit doubles. DCC recorded 5 hits in 28 at-bats.
Game 2: This game was tightly-contested as both teams' pitchers were dealing. DSU finally broke the tie with a run in the top of the fourth inning. DSU added 2 more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 3-0.
Cooper Ness came up huge for the Crusaders in the bottom half of the sixth inning with a 2 RBI single. After 6 innings of play, the game was knotted at 3 runs.
Stefon Reyes led the bottom of the seventh inning off with a walk.
Brandon Andrews stepped up to the plate and blasted a double over the head of the center fielder for a walk-off hit to propel the Crusaders to a series win.
Joel Stone went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and Manny Valenzuela went 1 for 3 with a walk. Zach Andrews pitched 5.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs and recording 3 strikeouts.
Andrew Hickey picked up the win, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out 1 batter. The Crusaders will hit the road to Champion Christian College next weekend.
