MBB: Crusaders beat Arlington Baptist for first time in three years and extend win streak to three games

ARLINGTON, TX-- The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team captured its first win against Arlington Baptist in three years on Tuesday night in a back and forth affair that ended with a steal converted to a three-point play by Tyjuan Battles and a shot by ABU clanking off the rim as time expired.

ABU had momentum in the first half grasping a 49-39 lead after one half of play. The Crusaders came out with a different mindset in the second half and outscored ABU 57-45 to secure a hard fought conference win on the road to move to 4-1 in the NCCAA Southwest Division II Region. The Crusaders have now won 4 out of the last 5 games and are peaking at the right time of the season with five games remaining in the regular season before regional play. This was the first time in three years the Crusaders had beaten ABU.

Down the stretch of the game, DCC fought back each time the Patriots took a lead and neither team held more than a 4 point lead in the last 10 minutes of the game. DCC shot 32-78 (41%) from the field, 12-23 (52%) from the three-point line, and 20-31 (64%) from the free-throw line. The Crusaders totaled 14 second chance points, 32 points in the paint, 6 fast-break points, 13 points off turnovers, and 31 bench points.

Tyjuan Battles led the charge for the Crusaders with a season high 26 points and 4 rebounds on 10-19 shooting from the field and 4-7 from the three-point line. Taro Ford continued his prolific shooting streak with 23 points on 5-9 shooting from the three-point line and 8-12 from the field. Tilly Hobson notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team the Crusaders tallied 52 rebounds, 24 assists, and 96 points. DCC has now extended its win-streak to three games and will look to keep the streak alive on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:30 p.m against #6 ranked Champion Christian College.
