VB: Lady Crusaders fall in five sets against North Lake College

DALLAS-- The Dallas Christian College women's volleyball team (1-3) hosted North Lake College (3-6) in its home opener on Thursday evening. The Lady Crusaders put up a valiant fight as it took all five sets to decide a winner. NLC took set 5 17-15 in a back and forth match.

Every set in this tight matchup was decided by three points or less. In set 1, North Lake College overcame an early deficit to climb back and take a 1-0 lead heading into the second set. DCC answered the call in the second set as each team would not give an inch. The Lady Crusaders were able to rally from behind early and take set 2 by a score of 25-22. 

In a climatic set 3, the Lady Crusaders overcame multiple rallies by the Blazers. Alexis Garner and Makenna Rambo recorded multiple kills to snag set 3 and a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

The fourth set continued the quick and energetic pace of play. Neither team could pull away as both teams were deadlocked throughout the match. Neither team had a lead greater than five points the whole match. NLC gained enough breathing space to take game four by a slim margin of 25-23.

In the fifth set, both teams looked to pull away on path to victory, but neither could as it was tied at 14 in a first to 15 winner take all set. The Lady Crusaders were not able to grasp victory as North Lake College squeaked by with a 17-15 victory in a chaotic fifth set. 

The Lady Crusaders recorded 137 digs, 59 kills, 6 Aces, 7 blocks, and 54 assists. Christen Downey and Makenna Rambo led the Lady Crusaders with 13 kills. Autumn Allmon recorded 4 blocks, Hannah Gallegos notched 23 assists, and Rae Leano snatched 40 digs. The Lady Crusaders will be back on the court on Friday, Sep. 2 and Saturday, Sep. 3 at the College of Ozarks Labor Day Tournament.
