DCC Softball Wins 1st Game in History in Game 2 at Bacone College

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Dallas Christian College softball team made history on March 29, 2022, with the program's first-ever victory. It would not come easy, as DCC bounced back from a game one loss to win the second of a doubleheader with a narrow 3-2 final.

The Crusaders scored all three runs in the first inning and it stood up, as strong pitching and timely defense kept Bacone College from coming back. Jordyn Billodeaux stood out in this game with her defense, as the shortstop cut down the tying run in the seventh with a throw home. She would also have the final assist to clinch the one-run victory.

Game 1 Recap (L, 8-0) (F/6)
Things started out tough for the Crusaders in this game with a three-run first inning allowed. A couple of infield hits allowed the trio of runs to come home. A wild pitch plated the fourth run in the second inning and then another three-spot came in the third. Despite nine total hits, the only one for extra bases was a double by Alexis Williams and that secured the eight-run margin in the sixth for the run-rule.

DCC compiled five total hits and had a pair of doubles by Billodeaux and Makenzie Miller. Billodeaux would go 2-for-3 and swiped two steals. Rhionnon Weatherly and Emily Blocker notched the remaining hits.

Kayla Palmer was a big factor in the shutout with 14 strikeouts through six innings for the Warriors.

Katherine Hanks allowed five of her eight runs charged and worked around eight hits. She walked five and struck out one. Hannah Mattingley struck out her batter for her lone out.

Game 2 Recap (W, 3-2)
After coming short of completing a victory several times this season, it had to have felt satisfying to pulling this triumph out in quite unconditional fashion. DCC started the game with three runs and knocked two of the games three hits in that frame. Summer Hasfurter was hit by the second pitch of the game to reach. Billodeaux singled to second base and Miller followed with a similar one to that location. Billodeaux baited a throw down on a stolen base attempt, but was caught on the pickoff. Hasfurter was able to swipe home plate. An error allowed Maya Williamson to reach and the throwing error by Bacone's third baseman would bring home Miller. A double steal by Rhionnon Weatherly and Williamson where the latter took home to complete the bizarre frame.

DCC ended up with one more hit in the game for three overall, while the Warriors collected nine.

The home team would have chances with a double in the first inning and got a run back in the second thanks to a defensive miscue. DCC starting pitcher Trinity Johnson fanned Ralyn Johnson in a matchup of the "Johnson's" to keep things at 3-1.

Johnson would work around a second and third jam in the third inning. She would avoid much issue in the fourth, as she continued to work on preserving the slight lead.

Bacone would rally to pull within a run in the sixth frame. An error helped with the second run for the visitor's, but only those two were charged this entire game.

With DCC needing three outs and Hasfurter in for her third inning of work, the right-hander out of Leander, Texas, clinched the first save of the program. Hasfurter inherited trouble with two on and no outs in the fifth.

Johnson would earn the first winning decision in the start. She scattered six hits on one run allowed (unearned) in four innings. She had no walks and two strikeouts. Hasfurter would go the final three innings and also had an unearned run tallied. She walked one and struck out one. The pitching tandem combined for 11 groundouts with six and five, respectively.

Billodeaux, Miller, and Leighianne Dale each recorded a hit. Williamson, Mattingley, and Weatherly drew walks in spots 4-6 in the lineup.

Bacone smacked five doubles for a big chunk of its nine total hits.

These teams will meet again at John Paul II H.S. on April 6. Time of the first game is 1 p.m.
