SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team fell to NCAA Division I and Conference USA opponent UTSA on Monday night. Playing an NCAA Division I consecutive nights showed it would be tough for the Crusaders to overcome, as they allowed the first 12 points and would trail 55-12 at intermission. The second half proved to be a better showing, as DCC was outscored by 10 at 46-36.
These past two games were counted toward DCC's record, as it moved to 1-5 on the year. The Crusaders have counted 12 exhibitions already, but only have played three games versus exclusive NCCAA teams. The past three setbacks have come in a row to NCAA DI's and NAIA Paul Quinn College, who was unbeaten last week and in double-digit wins.
UTSA improved to 7-7 in the non-conference victory.
Joseph Allen led all DCC scorers with eight points and grabbed four rebounds. He had two blocks and steals. His brother
Jairus Allen contributed seven points and led the team with five rebounds. He was 3-for-4 at the free throw line.
Tyjuan Battles matched Allen with seven points and swiped a team-high four steals to go with three assists.
Royce Mendez dished five dimes.
Caleb Willis scored his first collegiate points, which included a three-pointer to help him finish with five.
DCC returns home for the
MCM Elegante DCC New Year's Classic. The Crusaders have three games in as many days starting on January 6 with College of the Ozarks at 6 p.m. The Prospect Team Red will follow. On Friday, the Crusaders take on Baptist Bible College in the nightcap, while on Saturday a rescheduled date from preseason with Ecclesia College will tip-off at 3 p.m.
