DCC Men's Basketball Drops Pair of NCCAA DI Contest on Long Road Trip

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team completed a busy weekend road trip through the Midwest in three days. The highlight of the trip was a thrilling overtime victory at Ozark Christian College on Saturday that featured a season-high 94 points.

The remaining games on the trip were at National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I schools, Baptist Bible College and College of the Ozarks. Both schools already played DCC earlier this month in the DCC New Year's Classic.

Baptist Bible College

The Crusaders had played Bible Baptist close at their friendly confines in a six-point setback, but would be hard pressed a second time around in a 91-66 final at the W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse. DCC could not overcome a 36-23 halftime deficit. Despite scoring 20 more points in the second half, the Crusaders allowed 55 in that same span.

Jalen Perez was the top scorer with 15 points and shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-5 from downtown. Jairus Allen added 11 points and had five boards. The Allen brothers each had a pair of blocks with Joseph Allen continuing his impressive streak of games with at least one rejection.

DCC shot 37.1 percent from the floor and made 10 three-pointers. Baptist Bible hit 48.5 percent from the floor and were around 58 percent in the second half. The Patriots drained 13 treys overall and nine in the second half. Baptist Bible did most of its damage on points from turnovers with a 22-13 advantage. Interestingly, both teams had 19 each.

Trent McBride was the leader for the Patriots with a game-high 27 points and team-best eight rebounds. He shot 10-for-14 with two treys and five-of-seven free throw shooting.

College of the Ozarks

Dallas Christian found itself down 20 points at halftime and were unable to get going on the final day of the three-day road trip. Four of the team's five starters recorded double figures in points led by Tilyr Hobson with 14 and neared a double-double with a team-leading nine rebounds. Jason Makayabo in his second straight start had a career-high 13 points and added six boards and three steals. Jairus Allen was able to follow with 12 points and eight boards. Joseph Allen rounded out the quartet with 11 points and five rebounds.

Allen's two blocks have given him 15 straight outings (including exhibitions at NCAA Division I schools: Texas A&M, Northwestern State University, and Tarleton State).

The Crusaders shot 37.3 percent overall, but missed having their third consecutive game with at least 10 made treys. They compiled six made shots in 22 attempts. The Crusaders did do well at the free throw line with a 17-for-21 showing. DCC won the points off turnovers (14-10) and second chance points (11-7), but were hindered on bench depth at 30-12.

The Bobcats hit a blistering 54.1 percent from the floor for the game and were a phenomenal 58.1 percent from behind the three-point arc with 18 makes. Where COTO seemed to miss was at the charity stripe at 50 percent (7-14), but of course that had no impact on Sunday's result.
Andrew Mitchell was the top scorer with 24 points and hit all eight of his 11 field goal attempts from deep. Josh Linehan followed with 19 points, and Tanner Rogers had 13. The bench was led by Kyle Flavin and Blaine Cline with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Dallas Christian will regroup as the first full week of classes begin for the spring term. The next game is at home and will kick-off February with an NCCAA Division II Regional Matchup within the South Division. Randall University will visit for the first of two games in the month with first tip at 7:30 p.m. DCC has six contests remaining before the Southwest Regional in Overland Park, Kansas, starting on February 23.
