Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Anderson Hat Trick Highlights 5-0 DCC Men's Soccer Win over Barclay

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Christian College men's soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 5-0 victory on Friday morning over Barclay College. Shane Anderson led the stat sheet with a hat trick and dished an assist on another goal to give him seven points.

"We are happy with the victory," Haider Mohammad stated. "Still, we could have put away more goals and could have kicked the ball around a little more. Happy overall with the performance today."

From opening kickoff it was Alvinado Parker that took the first shot attempt of the game for the Bears, but it was saved by Luis Lopez. Despite an early foul and possession for the Bears, it was the Crusaders that would shift the momentum and get on the board first with a goal at 2:50 minutes in by Anderson.

The Crusaders notched their second goal on a nice finish to the left close in the box by Mohammad. Ivan Najar took a corner kick on the right side and Anderson was able to shuffle a pass to Mohammad for the goal. Anderson put DCC up 3-0 in under the last three minutes of the opening stanza.

"Felt nice to score first collegiate goal, but I think we can keep doing better," Mohammad stressed on the team's aim to keep improving.

Anderson pushed DCC to a season-high four goals and captured his third goal in the 59th minute. Luis Lopez, who switched with Brandon Flores at goalkeeper in the middle of the second half, would net a long strike for the fifth goal. Lopez and Flores, who combined for the team's first shutout on the year, each now have one goal.

"The defensive side was great," Diego Fierro praised. "Got a shutout with neither goalie allowing Focused on more talking in the back, building up and focusing on getting the ball to the offense so they can score some more."

DCC pounded 47 shots and placed 22 on goal. The team also forced 20 corner kicks, including 13 in the first half. The Crusaders were whistled offside nine times.

Barclay (0-4) had Dillon Perez make 16 saves on a busy day. The team placed three of its four shot attempts on frame.

Dallas Christian is on the road at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas, on Tuesday September 14. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. The next home match will be on Friday, September 17, versus Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

DCC looks to keep improving each time out in this young season.

"Overall just build more chemistry," Fierro concluded when talking about the keys to next week. "We have to keep improving on each game."

"Dallas Christian educates and mentors students to be people of influence engaging in their calling to the work of Christ in the church and in the world."
