FORT WORTH, Texas – The Dallas Christian College men's basketball team played exhibition games on November 2 and 3 against a pair of NAIA opponents, Wayland Baptist and Texas Wesleyan University.
On Tuesday night at Plainview, Texas, the Crusaders were held to 27.5 percent (14-51) shooting from the floor and struggled to a 64-37 loss. After a 40-19 halftime deficit, the Crusaders limited Wayland to a six-point margin in the second half. Still, DCC shot under 30 percent and was 1-of-10 from downtown in the frame which equaled 2-for-23 on the game.
Tilyr Hobson led with nine points and grabbed four rebounds and added a block.
Jairus Allen chipped in eight points and a team-high five rebounds.
The following night, DCC could not overcome a big first half deficit again, but would improve its shooting in the second half with a 15-for-33 showing and making half its three-point attempts with nine. The Crusaders would be outscored 44-41 in the last 20 minutes.
Nick Erves was the leader in scoring for DCC with 15 points.
Versache Buchanan followed with 13 points, while
Royce Mendez and Allen each had 11. Erves, Buchanan, and Mendez each shot 3-for-7 from behind the arc, while
Tyjuan Battles hit a pair of treys. Hobson was the leader on the glass for the Crusaders with seven.
Dallas Christian returns to Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) for another exhibition on Friday, November 12. First tip is at 7 p.m. DCC is back in Waxahachie for a neutral site exhibition with York College (Neb.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
