DALLAS, TX-- Director of Athletics Gregg Mucerino has announced Johnnie Wilkinson as the next head cross country coach at Dallas Christian College.
Wilkinson is a local graduate of South Hills High School of Fort Worth back in 2016. This is where she started her running career in Cross Country and Track, where she is the record holder in; 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 2 mile, 5k, and Pole-vault. She was also a National Honors Society Member and a few fun facts about her other extra curricular activities there, she was a cheerleader and on the staff for JROTC.
Wilkinson went to Tarleton State University where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, and a minor in Nutrition. She will soon Graduate again from TSU with her Masters of Science Degree, in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Administration. Over the years of dedication and hard work on the Cross Country team at TSU she worked her way up, to finish her career as the runner up performer on the Woman's Team, and also wrapped up her season with an all time best while having a torn labrum that could have ended her career. Wilkinson refers to that time as very important to her. "I would like to say that period of time made me humble, but made me recognize I am one tough cookie," said Wilkinson. As a track athlete at TSU Wilkinson competed in the 800m, and the 1500m. Aside from being an athlete at Tarleton for the last 3 years, she was also a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Nutrition Coach for Campus Recreation. Wilkinson received several awards from the Rec. including; Most Valuable Player for Group Fitness, and the Coach Giles Overall Excellence Award in Campus Recreation.
Wilkinson was Previously at Arkansas State University's start up Campus Queretaro, Mexico in 2017, She was a Club Coach for Cross Country and Track. She was also an organization advisor for Koivwvia Christian Club. She has also volunteered as a cross country coach from time to time for her Alumni High School of South Hills in Fort Worth.
Wilkinson shared why she chose to be at DCC: "I found Dallas Christian College intriguing because of its willingness to grow amongst adversity. In a world filled with doubt and despair, DCC stands apart in leading the next generation with poise and a Christ driven mission," said WIlkinson. "While praying for changes in my own life, I found that God led me to DCC. Feeling I could contribute more in the community of Christ I was on the search for something more fulfilling. The Crusaders have been very welcoming, and I hope to lead our teams into victory, all in Gods Glory."
Wilkinson's favorite bible verse is 1 Corinthians 9:24, which says, ""Run in such a way to win the prize." She added that she plans for her student-athletes to do just that inside and outside the classroom.
